Saadiyat Island

Wayfinding / Placemaking / Guidelines

Saadiyat means happy in Arabic; this together with government policies, and a baseline analysis of people and place influenced the proposition ‘Building Happy Diverse Communities’. The core values of sustainability, environment, culture and innovation were instrumental in defining design elements.

The visual language is comprised of: typeface, pictogram, colour, mapping and a route planning strategy. Applications include: pedestrian signage, cycle routes, street directories, bus stops, thresholds, public parks and car parks.

The guidelines were perfect bound and had a laser engraved ply cover, silk ribbon markers and french fold die cut dividers.

In collaboration at Portland with TDIC.
